In this project, our team explored converting a regional commercial airliner to hybrid-electric power, focusing on using electric engines during cruise to reduce emissions. We used the ATR 72-600 as a baseline to calculate required thrust, battery weight, and other performance factors, ultimately achieving a range of 342 nautical miles, a 2.25-ton reduction in CO2 emissions, and a cruise speed of 137 m/s. Our design balances the added weight of batteries with emission reductions, contributing to sustainable aviation solutions while aligning with operational requirements for range and payload capacity in regional flights.
